We have exciting news! To better support NIH’s culture of collaboration and information sharing, the NIH Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC) Team is introducing changes to help the NIH community communicate locally and with colleagues around the world. The team is in the process of implementing enterprise-wide communication and collaboration tools to provide robust, unified, state-of-the-art solutions. We’ve also made infrastructure improvements to create a more unified “one-stop shop” environment.

Web Collaboration

NIH Transitions to WebEx to Support Web Collaboration
In 2015, the Web Collaboration team will begin be implementing Cisco WebEx and phasing out Adobe Connect for NIH customers. WebEx provides a more cohesive desktop solution for interactivity and sharing information across geographic distances.

Existing Adobe Connect customers will be transitioned to the WebEx platform. If you are a current WebEx customer, you have the option to participate in the NIH WebEx Enterprise License Agreement at no additional cost. Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition with minimal impact to collaboration services.

Video Teleconferencing Infrastructure Upgrades

The Video Teleconferencing (VTC) team has made significant advances in moving to a more user-friendly platform infrastructure in an effort to offer the NIH community a unique and collaborative communication experience. These upgrades will provide self-service tools and cost savings.

Voice

The NIH environment of advanced technology challenges us to continuously evolve the way we perform multiple tasks. An exciting feature in a new wave of communication tools is the integration of voice calling on the desktop computer. The integration of telephony (voice calling) into our unified communication solution supports the initiative for an NIH-wide call center migration with Clinical Center (CC), National Library of Medicine (NLM) electronic Research Administration (eRA), and the NIH Service Desk.

IM & Presence

Cisco Jabber and Microsoft Lync Integration
UCC is currently working on the integration of Cisco Jabber and Microsoft Lync to provide customers with a seamless IM and Presence functionality between Jabber and Lync. Customers with Jabber will have the capability to perform instant messaging, presence and availability, Microsoft Office integration, audio and video chat and conferencing, desktop and application sharing and file transfer with Lync customers and vice versa.
